Summer 2023 marked a golden era for Bollywood, showcasing a string of hits, superhits, and blockbusters. Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” emerged as mega blockbusters, while smaller films like “The Kerala Story” also achieved super success. The 100 Crore Club witnessed triumphs with films like “OMG 2,” “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,” “Dream Girl 2,” and “Fukrey 2.” Romantic affairs like “Zara Hatke Zara Bachke” and “SatyaPrem Ki Katha” also raked in substantial earnings.

However, the euphoria has somewhat waned with recent releases facing setbacks, except for the unexpected success of “12th Fail.” Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and made on a modest budget, the film is poised to surpass the Rs 30 crore mark, eventually reaching Rs 40 crore to earn the title of a commercial hit.

Anticipation now rests on a potential mega money-spinner to regain lost momentum, with hopes pinned on the Diwali release “Tiger 3.” Salman Khan returns as the titular spy in this film, part of the expanding YRF Spyverse that includes “War” and “Pathaan.” Being the solo Diwali 2023 release, “Tiger 3” is set to hit theaters on a rather unconventional day—Sunday. With no competition from past or present releases, the Aditya Chopra production aims to make a substantial impact.

While a regular Friday release might have garnered an expected opening of Rs 50 crore, the film opted for a Sunday release due to Dhanteras falling on Friday. The makers believe that this bold move will avoid the uneven run that a Friday release might have experienced during the festive season. Despite potential challenges in early morning and evening shows on Diwali day, the film’s best bet is during the shows between 11 AM and 4 PM.

Confident that this strategy will give the film a kick-start, the makers anticipate a significant upswing in collections from Monday onwards. Projections suggest at least Rs 60 crore on Monday alone. The initial target is to secure around Rs 40 crore on the first day, setting the stage for a cumulative Rs 100 crore in the first two days.

As Bollywood experienced a dry spell in October with no film surpassing Rs 50 crore, the industry is banking on “Tiger 3” to bring back the box office fervor. With releases like “Animal,” “Sam Bahadur,” and the highly anticipated “Dunki” in December, a successful run for “Tiger 3” would be the ideal precursor, and expectations are high for Salman Khan to deliver the goods.
